When you are in the public eye as a celebrity, you have to watch everything you say. Even making a statement that is seemingly well within your rights could bring backlash.
Kelly Clarkson is realizing this all too well as the 41-year-old singer made the statement in a radio interview in 2018 that she spanks her children when they misbehave. That radio interview has recently resurfaced online and gone viral.
She said: “I’m not above a spanking, which people aren’t necessarily into. I don’t mean hitting her hard, I just mean a spanking.”
Clarkson went on to talk about how she disciplines her daughter at times in public when necessary. She said: “That’s a tricky thing when you’re out in public because then people are like, they think that’s wrong or something, but I find nothing wrong with a spanking.”
She also talked about her experiences receiving physical discipline as a child. Even though it didn’t sit well with her, she still feels that she is a well-rounded individual.
“My parents spanked me and I did fine in life. I’m from the south y’all so like, we get spankings,” she said. “My mom would call the principal if I ever ended up in the principal’s office and give permission for her to spank me.”
Carson is raising her two children, River Rose (8), and Remington Alexander (6). She shares those children with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
She does admit that warning her child before disciplining her has improved her character. She said: “Hi, I’m going to spank you on your bottom if you don’t stop right now, this is ridiculous,’ and honestly it’s really helped.
“She doesn’t do that kind of stuff as often.”
Carson did receive some backlash over her parenting technique. Many people feel that she was stupid for bragging about how she spanks her children and are concerned that she is going to have her children taken away.
Others were saying that they lost all respect for her after she admitted it.
Of course, there were many opinions.
